Good vs Bad

This past week we thought we'd get away from our crazy schedule and head down to St. George. I think we chose the worst week possible to take a vacation! I don't really want to dwell on this so here is what happened.....

Bad Luck

  • Day 1: Curtis loses his football coach
  • Day 2: I miss two job opportunities because I wasn't home
  • Day 3: Curtis' dad ends up in the hospital
  • Day 4: Transmission in our car....gone. dead. No Vegas for us :(
Good Luck
  • We survived Angels Landing!
  • Didn't have to pay for a hotel
  • Got to relax for a few hours at the pool and came away with some nicely burnt skin
  • Luckily my parents happened to be in St. George the same week as us so we could ride with them home after we left the poor car in a shop (and yes the car is still vacationing there)
Now that that's out of the way, I can actually talk about the parts we enjoyed from our vacation. It was already decided before we even left that we would go to Zions to hike Angels Landing. I've always wanted to go on this hike, I've heard so many great things about Angels Landing and how beautiful it is once you get to the top. We both were pretty nervous to go on this hike because of the horror stories we've heard and the fact that people have actually died on this hike....that made us feel good. So, we managed to find the courage and headed to Zion pretty early in the morning. This hike was seriously so cool. It wasn't extremely difficult and definitely not as scary as we had imagined. When we made it to the top we couldn't figure out how people have actually fallen off this thing. Either they're super careless or someone pushed them off. There's no other explanation for the deaths!

Once we got back from the hike we decided to hit the pool and relax for awhile. Yes, I said relax. We haven't done that for awhile....I almost forgot that relax was actually a word. After we relaxed for a few hours at the pool we went back and got ready and headed to Fiesta Fun haha this place is great. We had the chance to go mini golfing and go carting. Ask me who won in mini golfing... go ahead ask...ok ok i'll tell you, it was me! I beat Curtis mini golfing. He was pretty embarrassed haha. After that we went to challenge each other to a go cart race. It was determined that whoever starts in front will win. Either we're both really good defensive drivers, or really good at leading a race. The next night we thought we'd go hit a bucket of balls Curtis was getting mad that I was doing better than him, (as usual) but I warned him before that I get super lucky with golf and my first time of the season I always do good. Guess he didn't believe me! haha. We also found some time to play some pickle ball with my cousins.

The next day was probably the worst day of the trip! We were both so excited to go to Vegas. I can't really remember the last time I went to Vegas for fun. I always went for soccer so i've never had the chance to just go see what it's all about. We woke up pretty early so we could get a early start to Vegas, not to mention the car had been making some weird noises so we wanted to get that checked out as well. We ate breakfast and headed off  to the mechanic. On our way the car suddenly started jerking every time Curtis would hit the gas. We got the car to the parking lot of Burger King and just barely missed the mechanic. When we finally got the mechanic over to our car he took a look at it and immediately said it was the transmission. Now, I don't know a lot about cars. I quickly learned that the transmission is NOT good and very expensive to fix. Grrrrrreeeeeeaaaaaatttttttt. Way to top off a great vacation eh? There's no way we could get to Vegas now and we were not too happy about it. Luckily my parents were there and could help us out. We now had the option to stay with the car 2-3 more days or squeeze with my parents and go home with them and leave the car. Luckily we went home with my parents because the car won't even be done until Wednesday! One other lucky thing that happened to us is Curits' mom is going down to St. George for work so she can drive the car home. This will save us a 10 hour trip of driving to and from St. George so thank goodness for her!

Looking back at this vacation it's kind of funny so many things went wrong. I guess we're not the only newly married couple that has had problems on their first vacation! haha although we still wish we could have gone to Vegas....We were really looking forward to the buffets! We did have a good time when we weren't stressing out about everything and Angels Landing was definitely the highlight of the trip. Not to mention getting to spend some time with each other!

Doesn't do this hike justice....

WE SURVIVED!

The Cosgrove's have officially survived another semester at dear Weber State. This definitely wasn't an easy semester for either of us. Curtis took 20 credits this semester. Yes, you read that right TWENTY. It's not like these were easy classes either, any semester that involves chemistry isn't going to be an easy one. The crazy guy is minoring in chemistry, exercise science, and communications. We'll be heading out of state in a couple of years so Curtis can go to chiropractic school. Cross your fingers I can get a good job to support us both!

This semester was a weird one for me, it's weird to adjust from being a full time athlete and student to just being a student. I thought i'd have a lot more time on my hands.....definitely thought wrong! It's a good thing soccer was over for me because I honestly don't know how I would have fit everything in. This semester consisted of working, a crazy math schedule, my internship at Select Health, and my senior cap stone project. There were definitely a few breakdowns this semester. I don't usually get stressed that easily, but for some reason this semester was the breaking point haha. To say the least it was a rare occasion for me to see Curtis for more than 2 hours at a time. Minus sleeping.

On the bright side i'm happy to report that neither me, or Curtis got a single parking ticket! If you knew us this is so unrealistic. I swear both of us would get at least 10 a year. seriously. Luckily we both sucked it up and walked a little further to get to class!

I finished the semester on Wednesday ( made some delicious chocolate covered strawberries to celebrate....thanks to my mom for giving us the stuff!) and Curtis finished later that night. On Thursday we treated ourselves and slept in. That was definitely needed! To celebrate the semester being over the first thing we did was......you'll never guess.....we deep cleaned our house!!! Yup, that was real life. It seriously feels so good to have your house clean (my parents won't believe their eyes if they read this). We also finished up some much needed decorating and hung some more pictures. Only a little blood was shed. The Cosgrove's and glass DON'T mix.

Today we went with my little sister to City Creek. I wanted to see what all the hype was about and of course I dragged Curtis along with me. Poor guy. Luckily I don't really like shopping. I could probably get all my shopping done in a hour if I wanted to. We spent a couple of hours there and got tired. That place is HUGE. While we were walking back to our car I noticed that all of the flowers were blooming at temple square so of course I had to go walk around and see. Seriously if I were you i'd get there ASAP, the temple grounds are so pretty right now!

In case you're wondering....That's definitely not me doing the cart wheel, that would be Lacy.

On Monday we're heading to St. George to get away for a little be. We need it! We're lucky and have family down there that we can stay with. I can't wait to finally get to spend some time with Curtis! It feels like it's been forever since we've had a lot of time to spend together! This is really the only time we can go because Curtis starts football the week after and I have to get back to work. Oh, how could I forget.....We're both taking a couple classes this summer. yay. BUT! 15 more credits and i'm out of college!!!

Ok, I can't go without posting this. My family seriously has the weirdest cats, our poor cat is named Mister Bojangles haha he hates us i'm pretty sure. My mom has spent countless hours training him to do tricks.....really? How many cats do you know that can shake, roll over, and sit? not many. haha which is why i've gotta share.....

I'm married. So naturally I need to start a blog...

Well, I've never been a big blogger. I can barely write in my own journal to say the least. BUT I've figured i'd follow the crowd and start to blog. Who knows maybe people will actually read it. Curtis and myself will be moving out of state in a couple of years so he can go to chiropractic school. This will probably be the best way to keep our families updated!

Cosgroves est. December, 27th 2011. How we met.... (this is long, hope you like reading)

I love hearing how everyone met their husband/wife so why not start this blog with MY story aka the REAL story of what happened. Don't believe anything that Curtis says...

Curtis and I met my senior year in high school and his freshman year in college. My sister actually set us up on a blind date. The one and only blind date I let my sister set me up on (thank goodness for saying yes). Curtis loves to tell everyone that I didn't want to be there. This is not one bit true! I had a track meet the next day at BYU and had to be up super early. I didn't not want to be there....but I definitely would have rather been sleeping. The date was your "average" blind date, awkward, silent, a little stressful... you know the usual blind date. This date consisted of burnt bread, under cooked pasta, and a pretty decent dessert (only because I was involved in the making of this dessert). Now i'm about to tell you the line of all lines.....Curtis is famous for this line and i'll NEVER let him forget what he said. We were awkwardly sitting at dinner and one of those awkward silences came around....so I was desperately trying to think of things to say then out of the blue Curtis said...."Soooooo, do you like.....stuff?" Ummmm this kid has got to be joking! ha stuff? seriously? that's the best you've got? Yes. I do in fact like "stuff" I like big stuff, small stuff, all kinds of stuff.

After the date we didn't really talk. We wrote each other on facebook a little but that was about it. Curtis went on his mission and I graduated high school and went to Weber to play soccer. I'll be honestly while he was on his mission I completely forgot about him haha it was a blind date, those things never work out....or at least that's what i thought. About 2 months before he got home I was wasting time on facebook one night and noticed his picture popped up on the "Say hello to______ they haven't been on in awhile" so naturally I clicked on his page and kind of put together that he'd be home from his mission soon. Anyway, I forgot about that until the day he got home from his mission. I got on facebook late that day and noticed he was on. I didn't know he had just gotten home from his mission that day. Weird right? In case you're wondering I still have that conversation saved. Anyway, after talking for a little bit we decided we should get together, after all we'd be going to the same school and we were both playing sports there. So in the summer of 2010 we hung out a little bit. I'm not sure what happened but we just got busy and kind of stopped talking.

Fast forward to the fall of 2010. The first time I saw Curtis after the summer was in church. Yes, we were in the same ward somehow, pretty crazy. This Sunday I just so happened to be late to church, I was never late to church but I was this Sunday thanks to my roommates (not naming and names. Lindsay.). We were sitting out in the hall while the sacrament was being passed and guess who just so happened to pass the sacrament to us.....yup. it was Curtis. Curtis being a recently returned RM was not to impressed with me this day. (bad point in our relationship haha).

Fast forward to Spring 2011. We had been friends this whole time. You know the whole....waving to each other when we'd see each other and random texts here and there. One weekend a big group of people went to Crystal Hot Springs and my roommate and myself were invited to go. So we went. We also learned that we HATE Crystal. This night was super stormy and it was snowing like crazy when we were driving home. Basically this was the most miserable drive home ever. Lets just say I didn't have pants on and we had to drive with the windows down so they wouldn't fog up. oh, Curtis was driving. Curtis took us through he beloved Brigham City. He was being so funny and his real personality was finally coming out. I thought he was pretty cute after listening to him tell us all about Brigham. That was the night I decided I wanted to see where things went.....and we lived happily ever after. NOT.

Right as I decided I wanted to date him. I found out he liked another girl. That sucked and seemed to be the story of my life! I didn't want to just crash and and ruin this relationship. That would be rude. So I waited it out hoping that it would end. Sad, but true. I'd send him a random text here and there just to keep me in his mind. One day myself Lindsay and Curtis' best friend were at dinner in Bountiful. I had just found out that Curtis had kissed the girl he was dating and literally my heart fell into my stomach. seriously. I didn't think that was possible but it happened. I was super sad that day.

About a month or two later Curtis and the other girl decided to be friends and I finally got to make my move! We went to a scary movie...total set up. he was being so awkward and wouldn't even hold my hand. the nerve right? Ok. That's a lie. It was the complete opposite. ha what can I say i'm an awkward dater.

We started dating May 9th....Engaged September 25th....Married December 27th.

We've been married now for 3 month 2 weeks and 1 day. Time sure does fly!
